The Keur Joyce Giraud kindergarten is located in a poor area of Ouakam, a district of the capital Dakar and has been renovated and equipped in previous years with financial support of the YOU Foundation – Education for Children in Need. The new phase involved the construction and equipment of two classrooms on a new second floor of the existing infrastructure.

The kindergarten was inaugurated with its extension in November 2016 in the presence of UNESCO Special Ambassador, Dr Ute Ohoven. 100 children of marginalised families can now enjoy a child friendly environment and professional pedagogic education in 4 classrooms for the “small section” (3 to 4 years), for the two “medium sections” (4 to 5 years) and for one “big section” (4 to 5 years).

According to the regulations of the Early Childhood Directorate, the nursery school should not exceed 25 children per classroom. The kindergarten Keur Joyce, which has become very attractive, does not stop receiving children, however during the school year 2016-2017 requests for about 30 pupils had to be rejected due to lack of space.

The extension work at the Keur Joyce nursery school in Ouakam was financed by Ms Joyce Giraud through the YOU Foundation – Education for Children in Need.
