This project focused on the reinforcement of food security and the fight against poverty. The project area included 34 villages of the rural community Komsilga in Burkina Faso. Although this semi-urban region has a good market access due to its proximity to the capital Ouagadougou, the problems of “land grabbing” and high prices apply great pressure on the majority of the poor agricultural households.

The specific goal of the project was to improve the income of the agricultural sector in a sustainable way and to prevent the malnourishment of small children by implementing specific measures. Therefore, one of the main aims of the project was to improve the vegetable cultivation in order to improve income and the nutritious value and to support the commercialisation of non-agricultural products because of their suitability to sell them and create income.

In addition, these activities benefited the environment as they prevented deforestation and contributed to sustainable land use.

Due to this project’s activities, more than 400 households (approximately 2,800 people) could be reached and supported directly. Indirectly, about 87,000 people benefited from the project.
