The project „Support for civil society and local state actors to prevent chronic malnutrition and infant mortality in the Hauts-Bassins region, Burkina Faso“, which was co-financed by the YOU Foundation – Education for Children in Need and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has been implemented from September 2022 to June 2024 in the Hauts-Bassins region of Burkina Faso.
All planned results have been achieved! The project‘s aim was to help reduce chronic malnutrition and infant mortality by providing support to civil society and local state actors as well as to the 3,000 beneficiary households. These very poor and poor households in seven villages in the commune of Bama were trained on how to carry a pregnancy safely, how to eat during pregnancy, how to ensure good nutrition for their children aged 0 to 5 months and 6 to 23 months. They also received training in agriculture and livestock breeding and benefited from agricultural inputs such as seeds and organic manure as well as poultry with a view to undertaking an income-generating activity. This can help them increase their income in the agricultural and livestock sector and achieve their financial autonomy. Furthermore, a programme to produce enriched infant flour has been set up for mothers of children aged 6 to 23 months.
